Nintendo are moving handheld gaming into the world of 3D with the Nintendo 3DS console! The multi-dimensional machine is OUT NOW, and costs £196.99!

An entirely new handheld console, the 3DS features a larger widescreen top screen which is capable of displaying a stereoscopic image, creating a 3D effect without the need for special glasses! It also has 2 external cameras allowing gamers to take 3D pictures, as well as an internal camera. Analogue control is added in the form of a "Slide Pad" offering 360 degree analogue movement, inaddition to the traditional d-pad and stylus inputs!

Other new feature for the 3DS include sports programming in 3D from Sky, and the "StreetPass" system, which detects other nearby 3DS consoles when you're on the move. If the other console has the same game as you, for example Street Fighter, then the consoles can even battle among themselves!

The Nintendo 3DS is a more powerful machine than previous DS consoles, offering increased graphical fidelity and more powerful, immersive gaming experiences. Obviously you can't make out the 3D effect in our screens, so you'll just have to take our word for it that it's pretty special!

Games for the 3D handheld include Mario Kart, Resident Evil, Splinter Cell, Super Street Fighter IV, Super Monkey Ball, and lots more! The 3DS also runs the majority of existing DS and DSi games, but please note that 3DS games are NOT compatible with the existing DS consoles, so if you want to get in on the action, you'll need to upgrade.
